Morshead Home is an Eden In OZ & NZ Facility

Eden in Oz isĀ about building human habitats, bringing forth the idea of a garden paradise life and living close to nature. It is the future of Aged Care. It is about giving elders the opportunity to give care as well as receive it. It’s about promoting spontaneity and variety. It’s about human growth.

Studies have shown that Aged Care Homes who have implemented the Eden philosophy have recorded a reduction in infection and death rates, a decrease in incontinence, irritability and reliance on medications.

Studies have also shown that there has been an increase in feelings of self worth, and feelings of empowerment, personal growth, independence and overall quality of life have been significantly improved.

Morshead Home has been working on the Eden in Oz journey since 2006. To date we have made the following progress:

  • Resident focused environment in everything that we do.
  • Resident led activities such as building a vegetable garden, playing Bingo.
  • Activities program – full time.
  • Family participation in all events.
  • Buddy program for new residents.
  • Resident satisfaction surveys.
  • Being a part of the community – Schools, churches, volunteer program, community initiatives (Biggest Morning Tea).
  • Animals (dog visits, chicks visit, resident cat, birds and fish).
  • An onsite family Day Care to encourage close continuing contact with children.
  • Hairdressing onsite
  • Palliative care apartment.
  • Community aged care packages.
  • Track Winding Back – recording residents memories and history.
  • Arm chair travel program.
  • The language used by staff has changed (eg; ‘patients’ are now called ‘residents’)
