A Track Winding Back cover

A Track Winding Back – a digital oral history project – was conducted at Morshead Home , funded by the ACT Office for Ageing. The project involved recording interviews with veterans, spouses, and the archiving of interviews and digital photographs to Compact Disk. Recordings are provided to the participant, their family, and friends. The therapeutic effects of storytelling, and its role in contributing to the wellbeing of ageing veterans, is a central aspect of the project.

A Track Winding Back – Stage II will be the logical extension of the project and will be funded by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. With excerpts from oral histories housed at one ‘digital home’ – a web blog – the project can draw on contemporary digital platforms such as pod casting and links to online archiving, providing ‘digital storytelling’ content and educational content relating to the power of storytelling – to a wider public audience.

We believe that this unique focus, which involves the preservation, sharing and honouring of veterans’ oral histories – and the building of an engaging online community education resource is pioneering. In effect the project articulates a model for best practice in aged care provision – to an unlimited online community – offering creative and unique ways of saluting the service of our veterans online.
